This Sunday ~

According to Divorcewizards.com, "At a 2003 meeting of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, two thirds of the 350 divorce lawyers who attended said the Internet played a significant role in the divorces in the past year, with excessive interest in online porn contributing to more than half such cases.  Pornography had an almost non-existent role in divorce just seven or eight years ago."  If that is true, just think of the havoc that pornography is having on marriages, families, men, women, and children today.  Are you addicted to pornography?  Do you know someone who is addicted?  How do you help those who are in bondage to sexual temptation and immorality?  Join us this Sunday to see how God wants us to help.

Christmas In July

Your participation in the Boomers+ Angel Tree Outreach at Christmas time last year was so encouraging that we are off to an early start in asking for your involvement. Angel Tree's theme is "It Starts with a Gift". The hope is to go beyond that theme, as each gift delivery presents an opportunity to share the love & hope of Jesus with a child in our community who has a parent in Prison.  We will be making more visitations this year as we have expanded our Angel Tree families to 20. This is an ambitious journey & we are asking you to consider being a part of a Visitation Team. A training session will be provided to help you prepare for this rewarding experience.  As we are starting earlier this year, we also plan to form prayer groups asking God to bless our efforts & prepare the hearts of the children to receive the Gospel that will be shared in our visitations

LBC Yellow Pages

The office receives calls from members wanting to utilize the  talents of our own congregation.  Recently we received a call from a member wanting to know who in our congregation they could hire to do electrical work in their home.  Unfortunately, we do not know who to refer these callers to.  We would like to add a section to the directory that lists your profession / talent with contact information so our members can use your business, place of business or talent when they have needs for hire.   Email the office with your information.

Recipes and Remembrances

Calling all Cooks!  We know you have delicious recipes and some of those recipes have great stories or remembrances to go along with them.  Please share your favorite recipes/remembrances with the family of Laurelwood so that we can publish a cookbook with all of our family recipes.  Please email your favorite recipes to Shawn Iblings at iblingss@yahoo.com or drop a copy of your recipe in the recipe box at the Women's Kiosk.  Due to the probability of duplicate recipes, some may not be published.  Thanks for understanding.

Christ in the Passover-the Passover is the Old Testament feast that celebrates and remembers God's liberation of Israel from Egypt.  You will learn the history of this special day and the symbolism that points to Jesus Christ.

Feasts and Holidays-Throughout the Old Testament, God commanded the Children of Israel to observe these holy days as memorials to the might things that He had done in their lives.  This easy-to-use fold-out chart provides the name of each holiday, date of observance, explanation of the holiday, and reveals how each holiday points to Jesus as the promised Messiah.

100 things to know when dating-What should men and women consider about members of the opposite sex?  Important topics to consider and discussed include character, responsibility, Christian faith, honesty, motivation, habits, additions, and danger areas among others.  The pamphlet includes preliminary counsel from Scripture, biblical advice on breaking up, encouragement after a break-up, and a helpful Relationship Risk quiz.

How to study the Bible-Whether you are teaching people with no Bible experience or those who have studied the Bible for a long time, this pamphlet provides an excellent introduction to personal Bible study.  It offers concise steps for personal preparation, descriptive resources and reference information, and a step-by-step approach for inductive Bible study that teaches students to dig deeper into God's word.

Each pamphlet is only $4.00 and will fit nicely in your Bible for reference.  Many of the topics will be discussed in Sunday School and Small Group settings.

Mission Focus

Dave & Connie Patty - Missionaries to the Czech Republic:  Josiah Venture is in the second half of it's summer camp ministry (82 camps in 11 countries in eastern Europe with about 5,000 youth attending, many of whom are hearing the gospel for the first time).  Pray for open hearts and boldness in sharing the good news.  JV is also working to broadcast Exit 316 (an evangelistic television program) on Slovak National TV and with the ministry of Education in the Czech Republic to develop an ethics curriculum for the public high schools.  The Patty's are asking for special wisdom as to how to proceed with these opportunities.

Persecuted Church (Used with permission by Voice of the Martyrs)

Pakistan: On June 26, more than 150 Muslim extremists launched a devastating attack on more than 150 Christian families after a fight about  a personal matter between Muslims and Christians which occurred three days earlier. During the attack Muslims damaged 60 homes, including burning 16 to the ground, poured kerosene on a believer in an attempt to burn her, destroyed two donkey carts and broke 25 electricity meters. They disgraced many Christian woman. They tried to burn one of the ladies by throwing kerosene oil on her. Thank God she was able to escape from them. One of the young girls was taking a bath, she escaped without her cloths when they attacked. Pray for these families that have lost their homes and had their property damaged. Ask God to encourage and protect them during this difficult time.
