Ministry Overview:

I have been a chaplain assisting the Police/Fire Departments, the Medical Examiners Office and doing general trauma and crises intervention for about 10 years as a volunteer, and the last 13 years as a full-time Chaplain with County-Wide Chaplaincy. Our ministry basically involves ministering to people in crises, including accidental deaths of all kinds, suicides, SIDS deaths, notifications, trauma counseling, conducting funerals and weddings, as well as ministering to the “secondary victims” which are the police and rescue personal. Needless to say this makes for a very interesting variety of opportunities to be God’s hands and feet in many difficult situations! As an overall ministry, we hope to add one more “full-time” chaplain besides myself and our director to the team of five volunteers we now have.

Personally, I hope to be able to help with recruitment and fund raising, which is always a challenge in a “faith based” ministry (having to rely completely on gifts from God’s people to meet the needs of the ministry). After 21 years of pastoring, I felt that the big need in the northwest was to reach the 90% plus who do not claim any relationship to a church. They are not prone to come into the church doors, so I wanted to go out to where they were. This, to me, is a part of fulfilling the great commission to go into the whole world, which should begin in our back yard. I fully believe that the chaplain ministry is what best uses the gifts that God has given me. He has given me a love for the lost and an ability to come alongside them to offer help and comfort, as well as HOPE in the midst of crises.
