Ministry Overview:
Our ministry purpose is:
1. To evangelize the lost, especially elementary age children
(Matt. 18:14)
2. To disciple child in the Word of God so they will become strong Christians deriving the most out of life, contributing the maximum to their society and bringing glory to God (1 Pet. 2:2)
3. To establish children in Bible believing churches where they will receive consistent training and develop wholesome friendships that will strengthen their walk with the Lord (Heb. 10:25)
4. To train or equip Christian teens and adults how to effectively reach and teach children for Christ (2 Tim. 2:2)
Our primary target group has been described as the most fruitful mission field in the world - children 5 - 12 years of age. George Barna says, “The study clearly notes, that the greatest evangelistic window currently available is among young children. . .” Hawaii is a diverse group of people providing a tremendous opportunity for cross cultural ministry. The majority is not Caucasian although there are many in the state. Hawaii’s population consists of many Asians, Filipinos, and a huge variety of Polynesians. There is an enormous military presence in the islands providing opportunity to share the gospel with or equip people going to many parts of the world as ambassadors for Christ. As the state director for Child Evangelism Fellowship I (John) am responsible for oversight and development of the ministry around the state of Hawaii.
2007 Goals:
Ministry Goals:
1. Continue the process of recruiting and developing future leadership for CEF(R) of Hawaii. Some potential leaders have been identified and are being systematically encouraged and nurtured, but other leaders are still needed for the ministry to flourish.
2. Develop and implement a new leadership track into our Christian Youth In Action(R) in order to help youth grow in leadership skills and expand our outreach, particularly this summer.
3. Recruit and use interns in the summer, especially those with potential as future CEF staff.
4. Expand our summer ministry by having 5-Day Clubs(R) and day camps running simultaneously and having a week of Camp Good News(R) (overnight camp for children).
5. September is the month of Give Aloha which has been a very profitable fund raiser for CEF. May God bless CEF with donors willing to put up matching funds again this year as that has been extremely helpful in raising finances for the ministry.
6. It’s been six years since we were on furlough so we really need to do that this fall. There is a lot of planning and preparation for that time of ministry. It provides opportunity for us to share with team partners what God has been doing in a more personal way than letters. Pray with us for a vehicle to use during that time (probably Aug-Nov).
Personal Goals beyond the ministry of CEF:
1. Number one is always that we stay clean and close to the Lord and each other.
2. That I (John) can finish the major writing project for my doctorate before furlough.
3. We want to organize a ministry in our church for senior citizens and see it begin to move ahead in some positive ways. We would love to see some folks step up to take over this ministry and provide good leadership for it too.
